The Fairgrounds complex is located inside the city limits of John Day, Oregon, just a few blocks north of the downtown area. John Day and Grant County are noted for their diverse outdoor recreational opportunities, including hiking, hunting, biking, fishing, snowmobiling and many other activities.

Local attractions like the Kam Wah Chung Museum, the Ranch & Rodeo Museum and Gleason Pool are within a short walking distance from the property. The Grant County Historical Museum is a little over a mile away and the Malheur National Forest hiking trails and the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument are within 30 to 45 minutes driving distance.
